Dr. Igel holds Ph.D in Economics from Freie Univeritaet Berlin (West) and M.A. (Economics) from Technische Univeritaet Berlin (West). She is an Associate Professor of Management of Technology. Her areas of specialization include Innovation & Knowledge Management, High-tech Ventures & Entrepreneurship.

Dr. Igel has fifteen years of experience in teaching and training technology management and business plan development courses at post graduate and executive levels in Germany, Thailand and Finland. Since 1995, she has been 6 times Visiting Professor at the Helsinki University of Technology where she runs executive seminar courses in Strategic Management of Innovation and Corporate Environmental Management. She was also a member of the NSTDA/AIT Joint Thailand Science Park Committee and provided training and consulting services in high-tech business start-up for NECTEC and NSTDA technology business incubators, and new product & service development and corporate environmental management (ISO 14001 certification) to various SMEs and related government agencies in Thailand in the ASEAN region.

Her research projects deal with the management of innovation in complex technology systems, knowledge management, and entrepreneurship in new, technology-based firms in Asia. Her papers have been published in international peer reviewed journals such as Technovation, IJ of Technology Management, IJ of Entrepreneurship & Innovation Management, IJ of Learning & Intellectual Capital, IJ of Quality & Reliability Management, Asian Case Research Journal and Asian Business, among others. Dr. Igel is Associate Editor, Journal of Asia Entrepreneurship and sustainability, and her professional association include Greeing of Industry (GIN) Network, Global Technology Management Consortium and Academy of Management.
